  • Utilize strong analytical skills in being responsive while managing the Global Health Grand Rounds to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Successfully organize weekly presentations, including setting up, collecting materials, and communicating with presenters.

  • Effectively support education, mentorship, and leadership program with VIGH global partners to ensure smooth operations.

  • Access large public health datasets and analyze maternal and child health data and create factsheet, report, or abstract from the statistical findings.

  • Communicate audience-appropriate public health content, both in writing and through oral presentation.

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using biostatistics, informatics, computer-based programming, and software.

  • Skills: Quantitative analysis, coding software (SAS), data visualization, and academic writing.

COMMUNITY HEALTH RESEARCH ASSISTANT

  • Identify effective community outreach strategies to address COVID-19 vaccination in refugee, immigrant, and migrant communities (RIM).

  • Research local and national data to determine evidence-based strategies for community outreach and communication strategies in RIM communities.

  • Develop a white paper/report on COVID-19 vaccination communication and outreach strategies.

  • Discuss the impact of the social determinants of health and the impact they have on RIM communities.

  • Organize focus group and one-on-one interviews to gain insight into common myths, barriers, and beliefs surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine in RIM communities.

  • Skills: Cultural humility, cultural competence, qualitative research methodologies, cross-cultural communication, community research & engagement

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

  • Discuss the impact of structural bias, social inequities, and racism on minority communities regarding COVID vaccine hesitancy and increasing health disparities.

  • Understand the processes for implementing a health communication intervention in a clinic to address HPV vaccine hesitancy among parents.

  • Identify evidence-based strategies to disseminate research findings back to community members and organizations to improve community trust and willingness to participate in future research.

  • Use feedback obtained from surveys, focus groups, and interviews to improve processes and health delivery to minority groups.

  • Skills: Academic writing, cultural humility, health equity, qualitative research methodologies, cross-cultural communication
