MPH Courses
Below is a short list of some of the courses I took during the MPH program that had a considerable impact on my public health knowledge, attitudes, and skills.
Biostatistics
This course addressed basic concepts and methods of biostatistics. I have been able to apply the skills I learned in other courses using my data analysis skills.
Foundations of Global Health
This course introduced me to key topics, concepts and methods in global health, examining determinants of complex issues and multi-dimensional approaches and interventions with a particular emphasis on low-resource settings.
Epidemiology
This course focused on measures of disease frequency and association, observational study design, and diagnostic and screening tests. The course reviewed the use of these tools and the role of epidemiology in measuring disease in populations, estimating risks, and influencing public policy.
Leadership & Management in Public Health
This course introduced me to principles of management and leadership of global health programs and organizations in complex and challenging environments. We explored diverse health systems, organizational behavior, health policy, program design, and core management techniques.
Health Equity
Promoted increased awareness of ways in which social injustice imposed on sub-populations of individuals, families, and communities, as a consequence of "isms", perpetuates disadvantage and disparities, with implications for mental, physical, and public health, through oppression and marginalization.
The Science of Health Behavior
This course provided an overview of social and behavioral science theories that are currently used to understand health behaviors and guide the development of interventions to prevent, reduce, or eliminate major public health problems.
Project Pyramid
Project Pyramid is a Vanderbilt University interdisciplinary, student-led program that uses in-classroom and hands-on learning experiences to meaningfully engage with socially conscious organizations across the globe, while establishing market-driven solutions that help fulfill their missions.
